Volunteer Information

After the events of September 11, 2011, the world of Public Health as we knew it changed tremendously.

Health departments were charged with the task of being able to set up vaccination clinics for the entire population of thei county and be able to vaccinate or medicate that population within 48 hours.  With a limited number of staff, we look to volunteers to assist in this mission.

On January 31, 2008, the health department volunteer group officially become recognized as a Medical Reserve Corp (MRC) Unit of the Office of the Surgeon General. The Jackson County MRC Unit currently has over 200 volunteers willing to help in an emergency. The unit participates not only in public health events but also local emergencies, drills, and exercises.
